EL PLAN
STORYLINE
For Miguel, a kleptomaniac by hobby and a misanthrope out of boredom, it all boils down to: “The world belongs to the bold,” a saying coined by his father after he turned down a job offer in Norway’s second-largest city. Miguel wants to prove he’s bold. That the world, and the Cup, belong to him.
SYNOPSIS
Miguel is a kleptomaniac and a creative director at Mexico's largest television network. First and foremost, he loves soccer. Second, he loves himself, and third... well, nobody ever remembers third. On June 6, 2018, Miguel travels to the World Cup in Russia with a goal that sounds impossible, even for Danny Ocean and his crew of criminals: to steal the World Cup trophy. He's spent 12 years hatching a master plan involving a former Argentine hooligan, a short-tempered ex-military man, an old friend and his Tinder date, fake credentials, €4,400 in travel expenses, and a giant snail. And he has less than 30 days to pull off the heist. But since plans often fit together about as well as an umbrella through the eye of a needle, Miguel, besides having to pretend to work, falls in love, is ignored, gets involved with the grandson of the inventor of the AK-47, witnesses a murder, gets lost, sneaks into Luzhniki Stadium, tries borscht and almost dies, and one night, learns that a tragedy has occurred in Mexico that could change not only his plan, but his life. And he must make a decision. Then, he remembers his father's mantra, "The world belongs to the bold," and decides to be true to that commandment.
